SlimComputer - Free

SlimComputer helps identify software that comes pre-installed on a new computer

If you've ever gotten a new PC and it came loaded with promotional programs, toolbars, links to advertising or trial offers, then you know how frustrating these things can be. Community-powered feedback is the key to SlimComputer's state-of-the-art cleaning. In real time, SlimComputer assesses your new PC to identify programs, toolbars, and startup entries that users vote "optional". You can then use this data to decide what you want to keep on your computer.

What it does: Wow, new PC, eh? Nothing else like it: slim, sleek, and speedy, with gobs of space just waiting to be filled up. The last thing you'd need would be a system cleaner, right? What if we told you that it could be even slimmer and speedier if you removed some of the junk like software demos and toolbars that comes preinstalled on new PCs? Suppose there were a free utility designed specifically to slim down new PCs by clearing away the stuff you don't want and won't ever use before it becomes the computing equivalent of belly fat? Suppose such a tool checked online for user-supplied feedback about programs and applications, to keep your system slender as it grows in size? Let's call it SlimComputer, because that's the name of a free tool from SlimWare designed to optimize PCs right from the start. However, it works just fine on not-so-new PCs, too.

How does SlimComputer use the "Cloud" and What is "Community-Sourced" software?

To get the latest profiles on all the new software, SlimComputer uses an online data cloud. This cloud is community-sourced, which means that it evaluates programs based on hundreds of ratings, some by tech professionals and others by users who've used the programs and want to tell others about them. When SlimCleaner assesses your PC, it actively streams data to the cloud, telling it exactly what sort of programs are installed. The cloud then streams back an optimization plan, customized to that computer.

Why should I trust Cloud-Based Optimizations?

SlimComputer uses what's called "authoritative ranking" to ensure that the ratings for your programs are accurate and that they reflect what people really think. It works by weighing the ratings of each contributor against their previous levels of accuracy and against the ratings of high-ranking users. The high-ranking users make up a specialized team of tech experts that evaluates the latest software. As an extra level of precaution, we also monitor incoming ratings and automatically detect whenever someone labels a program in a way that's outside the mean. This lets us look into the program more carefully, taking care to guarantee the best evaluations.

Why do you keep SlimComputer free?

We approach the ever-evolving computing world with a fundamental idea, that the people who use computers know what they want. By offering our applications for free, we can contribute to an active and vital network of problem solving where everybody can have an opinion and a voice. We will eventually market an all-in-one suite that combines the features of SlimComputer with other essential computer functions. But SlimComputer will remain completely free to the computing community!
