How to Restore when Windows won't start?

An obvious reason to want to restore an image is when Windows 8 won't start or won't work right when started. How can a RecImg backup be restored in this case?

Currently, there is no way to restore an recimg snapshot from boot. However, this is a feature we want to add to RecImg Manager in the future. We are researching a solution for this.

Use the Windows rescue or installation disk to restore the image.

Can't you use the Windows installation or rescue media to restore the images created using RecImg Manager?

You may use the installation/rescue media to boot Windows into an environment where recimg snapshots may be restored. You could open a command prompt from the disc and run recimg.exe.

Is it possible to save recimg.exe and an image previously made by Recimg to the second partition on a USB boot device that has the rescue media on the first partition? I'm using a spare SSD as the USB rescue boot device so there is plenty of room. Trying to figure out how to be able to recover if the HDD with windows has failed. Assuming from Ryan's previous answer that I could execute the recimg.exe from the command prompt and then point it to the image on the rescue device.

    Thanks

Recimg.exe requires Windows to run. You can run recimg.exe from within a Windows pre-installation environment. So, if you have the installation media for Windows available to boot from, you can restore recimg snapshots within it.

I think if you boot from rescue media (disk, USB drive, etc.), you can simply select refresh PC from the advanced recovery options menu. It defaults to the most recently created snapshot (unless this has been changed using the recimg /setcurrent option). One nice feature of RecImg Manager is that it lists various snapshots allowing you to easily select which one to use.

So checking does recimg manager automatically use the /setcurrent after backup to change location to last recimg made or does one need to manually set this each time so windows can use this via its refresh on its recovery boot cd/usb? Also how about a bootable recimg restorer and backup manager iso for cd and usb as may backup faster than in windows as not competing with other things for resources -could be a more reliable backup too?
Sorry I may have asked on another post but unable to locate it now.

Yes, recimg manager will set the last backup made as the current image.
